This is a two session workshop (January 6 and 20) where we will discuss the fundamentals of murals and other mural-based production techniques here in Maine. We will also discuss:

• How and where to locate funding

• Grant writing

• Alternative ways of making your project a reality

• Technical concerns

• Material use for outdoor work as well as considerations when creating in public spaces, inside or out

• Budgeting and time management

• Materials and installation safety

We will look at designing projects to achieve social impact, creating a public Art practice that is self sustaining, and how to create community for the purpose of realizing projects larger than one individual Artist could accomplish on their own. Each student will create a Public Arts proposal, real or imagined, that will allow them to grasp the basic steps involved in going from idea to fruition when looking at making pubic Art. So bring your wildest dreams and ideas for Public Art projects and take the first step towards making it happen!
