APRIL 2023
Allegra and I hiked the Head of The Tide and brainstormed yesterday! We are thinking of some forest chandeliers that will be suspended in certain locations from the trees. No lights or candles, but hi key colors of course. Obviously we would secure with bungees and/or rope in a way not to damage our tree friends. If there is anything else we may need to know or consider in exploring this idea please let us know ;-)

The tree, once aesthetically enhanced, becomes something other than a“tree” and into something to reflect upon, honor, and revere.
Through the act of seeing, experiencing, and searching out inspiration in the flora and fauna of Stover and Head of The Tide Preserves we will create 12 pendants to adorn some of the oldest trees, the Hemlock and Cedars along the river’s edge of Stover Preserve that have watched over the property and the river itself the longest of any trees on this parcel, for the past 80 to 100 years- The Witness Trees as some would call them. On this riverside “catwalk” , donning their jewelry, twelve 2.5’ x 4’ pendants inspired by the preserve itself, we will create a living gallery for visitors to experience.

The following is the estimate for the pendant mural panels we have discussed for the wellness trail at the PenBay Campus:
• Using the existing fitness station sign posts to anchor a taller “post” that will enable each “pendant” to be seen up and above each area. We are proposing pendants, one for each of the nine (9) fitness stations and/or each of the bridges and entrance/exits to the trail, also nine (9). The fitness stations were part of our original discussion but after another hike last week on the trail we considered the bridges and entrance/exits as it would additional elements to the trail instead of just building upon the nine we have proposed.
• Our last project used an oval pendant shape as seen in the accompanying images. These were a way of adorning the trees of the preserve, celebrating the preserve itself. For this project we are proposing a similar jewelry inspired format but using organically shaped pendants instead. Because we cannot install in the trees here the organic shape will further entwine the panels within the landscape.
• Each pendant’s imagery would be inspired by the trail itself again not unlike the images of our last project at Stover Preserve as well as influenced by the hospital as a location for healing and wellness.

PENBAY PENDANTS • ADORNED
There is something magical about being outside and connecting with nature that can improve physical and mental health in ways that more clinical approaches cannot.
Our Forest Pendant Project looks to celebrate your existing campus grounds, walking paths, and courtyards by bringing Art into each, pairing this with pendants within your interior space(s) to share the connections of nature, Art, and healing. Our work celebrates hospital campuses like yours. Embedding Art within your wellness system creates an inviting and approachable environment for healing and self reflection by patients, visitors, and staff.
Specifics to each campus, town/city, and environment ? How to relate their vision to past two Pendant projects?
